With his stellar play this season, Alex Verdugo is making Boston Red Sox fans forget about Mookie Betts.
It was hard to not be upset after the Boston Red Sox traded Mookie Betts. They gave away the face of their franchise for relatively nothing (or so we thought).
One of the main pieces coming to Boston was Alex Verdugo. Besides having a poor moral compass (allegedly) he didn’t seem like a player who could make up for the loss of Betts.

But lately, Verdugo has been showing out and making us forget about that trade. Friday night was just another example. He went two for three with two home runs and a walk. On top of that Verdugo also robbed a home run in right field.
This season has gone rather well for Verdugo. In 11 games he has three home runs, four RBIs, and a .294 batting average.
Also for the people at home, Verdugo has the same amount of home runs as Betts. So it’s hard to complain about the numbers he is putting up so far this season.
It might not be fair, but Verdugo will always be compared to Betts. It just happens when you are apart of a trade. Verdugo himself has even touched upon this.
If Verdugo keeps performing as he has in 2020, he won’t need to worry. He has been one of Boston’s best bats so far this season. Also, he has shown that he is quite capable of patrolling right field.
This Red Sox season hasn’t been a fun one. The team has struggled mightily especially with a weak starting rotation. They are currently sitting in 4th place in the AL East behind such great teams as the Orioles and the Rays. It can’t get much worse than that.
Verdugo has been a bright spot though. If he continues to play well the Red Sox future will be promising. Hopefully, he can help take them to the promised land that is a World Series trophy.
