Chiefs DT Chris Jones: People forget Jets are 'very good' because 'they haven't won a game' - Jets Wire

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones is not one to overlook an opponent — even the winless Jets.

Kansas City plays host to New York this weekend in a matchup in which it is heavily favored. Despite the Jets’ 0-7 start to 2020, Jones is refusing to take Gang Green lightly as the Chiefs eye their seventh win of the season.

“That’s a very good football team,” Jones said Thursday, per ESPN’s Adam Teicher. “People forget that because they haven’t won a game.”

Jones’ comments came after Adam Gase heaped praise upon the Pro Bowl defensive tackle Thursday morning.

“He’s been phenomenal since he got in the league,” Gase said, per The Athletic’s Connor Hughes.

Regardless of what Jones thinks, the Jets have not come close to resembling a good team at any point in 2020. New York’s offense ranks among the worst in the NFL, while its defense is allowing 29 points per game. Those marks make Jones’ comments a bit of a head-scratcher, but overlooking an opponent can sometimes get a team burned.

The Chiefs seem determined to avoid such heat, as Andy Reid sang similar praises of the Jets this week.

At this point, Kansas City is likely trying to find ways to stay motivated when New York comes to town on Sunday. It won’t take much to knock off the lowly Jets, but clearly, Jones is not subscribing to that line of thinking.
